Reasons For Our Existence

Our Work

HEAPI works across three core areas: Climate Litigation, Health Rights, and Digital Rights. Across these areas, we use strategic litigation, legal advocacy, research, public education, and community engagement to defend rights and promote accountability.

Our work is guided by the understanding that many rights violations are interconnected. Environmental harm may affect health and livelihoods. Digital restrictions may undermine civic participation and access to information. Weak accountability often deepens vulnerability and exclusion. For that reason, HEAPI approaches public interest work in a holistic, rights-based way.

Climate Litigation

We support legal and advocacy efforts that address environmental harm, land injustice, displacement, and the human rights impacts of climate-related and extractive activities.

• Strategic litigation and legal support in matters involving environmental and land rights.

• Accountability work concerning displacement, livelihoods, and community protection.

• Analysis of state and corporate obligations affecting affected communities.

• Legal and public advocacy on climate justice and environmental governance.

Health Rights

HEAPI works to defend the right to health and related rights, especially where individuals or communities face neglect, discrimination, exclusion, abuse, or lack of meaningful remedy.

• Advocacy on access, dignity, equality, and accountability in health-related matters.

• Legal support and analysis concerning harmful practices, failures of protection, or rights-denying systems.

• Public education and rights-based documentation on health justice issues.

• Engagement on policies and practices that affect wellbeing and human dignity.

Digital Rights

HEAPI defends rights in digital spaces and in relation to technology, data, communication systems, and civic participation.

• Advocacy concerning privacy, freedom of expression, access to information, and digital inclusion.

• Responses to unlawful surveillance, censorship, internet restrictions, and technology-related abuses.

• Legal education and public-interest analysis on emerging digital-rights issues.

• Support for rights-based approaches to technology governance and accountability.

Strategic Litigation and Advocacy

Strategic litigation is central to our work. We support carefully developed legal interventions that not only seek remedies in individual matters, but also contribute to wider public accountability and systemic reform.

Research, Documentation, and Public Education

HEAPI values strong evidence and accessible knowledge. We undertake research, documentation, legal analysis, and public education to support informed advocacy and practical understanding of rights.

Community Engagement

Our work is informed by the experiences of affected people and communities. We engage with community realities not as an afterthought, but as an essential foundation for meaningful and ethical public interest practice.
